Professor Carlin is with the Quality Assurance unit of the Dormitory Authority State of New York, overseeing technical staff assigned to their City University of New York program. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from The Cooper Union School of Engineering.

Professor Carlin teaches ARCH 144, Environmental Technology II. He is the co-author (with retired Professor Walter Bishop) of "Methodology to Develop an HVAC System Selection Matrix" for the New York Interagency Engineering Council.
