Barb Choit is Collections Assistant in the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture Archive. She is responsible for documenting student work, facilitating faculty and student access to Archive materials, and curating exhibitions on the third floor of the Foundation Building. Choit holds a Master of Fine Arts in photography from The California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA, and a Master of Arts in Modern Arts and Curatorial Studies from Columbia University, New York, NY. While an undergraduate at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, Canada, in 1998 she attended The Cooper Union School of Art as a foreign exchange student.

In addition to her work at The Cooper Union, Choit is a visual artist whose practice is generated by methodologies derived from her background in curatorial studies and art history. Collecting and archiving techniques inform her current work, notably her long-term project, The Division Museum of Ceramics and Glassware.  The photographic and installation work associated with this project are products of the performed administrative functions that go into maintaining a cultural institution.

Choit’s work has been exhibited internationally in such venues as Presentation House Gallery, Vancouver, Canada; The Swiss Institute New York, NY and Kunstraum
Muenchen, Munich, Germany. Her work has been reviewed in the New York Times, Art Monthly, and www.artforum.com. Upcoming exhibitions include a public installation of The Division Museum of Ceramics and Glassware at 259 10th Avenue Gallery, New York, opening May 15, 2008, and a solo exhibition at Redling Fine Arts, Los Angeles, in October 2008.
