Professor Anderson received a Bachelor of Arts Degree with honors from Harvard College and a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from The Cooper Union. Upon graduation in 1982, he received awards for excellence in design, structures, student leadership, and academic achievement. Professor Anderson worked for Henry Smith-Miller, and Gwathmey Siegel and Associates prior to forming a partnership with Johannes Kastner-Lanjus in 1991. From 1993 to 2002 his firm, Samuel Anderson Architect, has accomplished a wide variety of built work. He pursues an architecture based on the values and aspirations of those who endow, use, and construct it. His projects for the Harvard University Art Museums and the Morgan Library have received awards and acclaim in Architectural Record and other journals. In 2002 he formed Alspector Anderson Architects llp with Jacob Alspector, Cooper Union ’72. Their current work includes the renovation of Bobst Library at New York University and projects for the Whitney Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Harvard University Libraries.
Professor Anderson teaches ARCH 135, Building Technology, and has previously taught ARCH 151, Thesis Design Studio. Mr. Anderson has worked extensively on buildings with special thermal and vapor transmission requirements and sophisticated climate control systems. He strives to develop readily constructable details that achieve necessary technical requirements efficiently and reflect underlying architectonic intent.
