Cooper Union School of Architecture: Faculty

Peter Schubert was born in Evanston, Illinois, in 1955. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Ohio State University in 1978, and a Master in architecture degree from Columbia University in 1981. Prior to joining the Hillier Group, Mr. Schubert worked at Kohn Pedersen Fox, where he became a principal in 1998. He was also a staff architect at Jon Michael Schwarting and Associates (1981–82), where he was a member of the team that designed the Fashion Institute of Technology campus. the FIT project was a recipient of the Progressive Architecture Award for an Urban Design Master Plan. He was also a staff architect at Petersen/Littenberg Architects (1982–83), and at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (1983), both in New York City.

Mr. Schubert has been Design Principal for a variety of projects in North America, Asia and Europe. His academic and institutional work includes a master plan for New York University Law School in Manhattan; a design entry for the Sloan School of Management at MIT, a master plan for Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts, and the renovation of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He was also Principal-in-Charge on the First HawaiianBank Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, and his public sector work includes serving as Design Principal for the Atlanta Federal Center for the General Services Administration. Additional corporate work includes a mixed-use corporate headquarters for the Samyang Foods Company, and a headquarters building for Posteel, both in Seoul, South Korea. He has extensive master planning, residential and interiors experience.

For his work at Kohn Pedersen Fox Mr. Schubert has received the Certificate of engineering Excellence from the New York Association of Consulting Engineers for the Mellon Bank Center (1991); a Design Citation from 38th Annual Progressive Architecture Awards for the World Bank Headquarters (1990); and both the Award of Merit in Design and Manufacturing Excellence from the Architectural Precast Association (1990), and Best High-rise/Urban Building from the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (1988) for 500 E Street. His work on the First Hawaiian Bank Center was featured in 12 Prophesies for the 21st Century by L'Arca Edizioni (1997). He has taught at Columbia University, and at the Catholic University, in Washington, D.C., and Rome. He currently teaches ARCH 141, Design IV at the Cooper Union.

Mr. Schubert is a member of the New York State Association of Architects, the Society of Architectural Historians, the Society for Historic Preservation, and the American Institute of Architects.
